Every once in a while we hear about insurance scams.
Here’s Larry’s story of a scam called “staged rear-ending”- if not for the BlackVue dashcam installed in his car, this story could have had a completely different ending.
Larry told us: “I had been in a long line while trying to get to a friend’s house when I decided to turn around and go another way. What the front video shows is me waiting in line until I started the K turn; you will notice that when I turn left, I’m pointing at the curb in the middle of a yard.
What the back camera shows is that AS SOON as I turned left and stopped, the car behind me jumped forward so as to block me backing up. In fact, he tried – and succeeded – in catching me unaware so that I backed into him. I got out and gave him my auto insurance info and let him take a picture of my driver’s license and I got pics of his license and insurance papers. Later that day, I called my insurance company and informed them that I’d hit this gentleman and sent them the BlackVue footage.
After seeing the videos, the insurance company called me and told me not to worry. They swatted the driver’s claim down HARD and didn’t pay out a dime, nor did the accident count against me. The insurance company said that, in their opinion, the driver purposefully tried to get me to hit him. They were willing to pursue a claim against the driver for damage to my car, but there was none. My bike rack scraped across his left from headlight and hood, but no damage was done to my car.”
